Claremont AYSO's Select Program

The Select program offers an opportunity for enthusiastic, motivated players from the 10U-19U divisions of our Fall Core Program to participate in more competitive but still recreational soccer. Interested coaches apply in October. Once chosen, our Select coaches invite players to their teams based on their play in the Fall. We typically form and announce teams in late November and start training sessions in early January. The Select program runs from January through June, including—for most teams—participation in a Select league as well as tournaments. Some travel maybe involved.

The number of teams formed in each division varies from year to year based on the number of coaches who volunteer and the number of players in the Fall program.  

PARTICIPATION

To be eligible for the Select program a player must have enrolled in the Fall Core program and must have played in at least 50% of their team’s Fall games.  

We expect a higher level of commitment from both players and parents. Select is for enthusiastic, motivated players who want the opportunity to develop their soccer skills through competition against other enthusiastic, motivated players. The league, coaches, and other players expect participants to take advantage of the opportunity by regularly attending training sessions and games. We also expect parents to participate in running the teams, which are self-managed and self-funded.

REGISTRATION & FEES

After coaches select the teams, registration—both online and in-person—occurs in December. Select is a self-funded program.  Regular registration fees collected before the season offset the cost of uniforms, field rental fees (including training session under lights) and other incidental expenses.  Players will participate in several tournaments, which the coaches choose.  You can expect to participate in anywhere from 4-6 tournaments.  The tournament registration costs will vary, but can run anywhere from $45-$70 per player per tournament.  Expect other incidental traveling costs such as gas, food, and lodging depending on the location of the tournament. We encourage teams to hold fundraisers and seek sponsorships to offset these additional costs.

Remember, although Select is more competitive, it’s still about the kids and run by volunteers.
